The story has a backdrop in 1933. It’s the 3rd year release of Horseshoe Bend Cellars flagship wine, Cherries Jubilee… “The wine that made Texas famous.” This old school Italian winery is hosting an exclusive private tasting event for the wine’s release, but the night quickly becomes "musty" with the murder of one of the people attending. While someone “sleeps with the fishes”, the rest are left to figure out who committed the murder. Guests will need to “go to the mattresses” to solve the murder and the mystery surrounding the night’s events.
The story’s setting is modern day, in 2021. The families involved are quite wealthy. The women are the social movers and shakers of Texoma, while their husband’s business interests extend beyond the metro area to Houston, Galveston and beyond. While one may think these powerful families have built their wealth in oil or cattle, the two families in tonight’s game amassed their fortunes in other ways.
Chastity Corman and Miles Belvedere have announced their upcoming wedding after a whirlwind three-month courtship. The wedding, which is to take place the day after Chastity’s wedding shower, is the social event of the year, and all of Texas has been abuzz with excitement of the upcoming nuptials.
It is the spring of 1884. North Texas is slowly being populated with small towns full of settlers coming to drill for oil, set up ranches and run dubious saloons and wineries. Now the railroad is coming!
Iowa Park is one such small town. Founded 20 years ago, tonight it has a festive air as the townsfolk get set to start their 20th anniversary celebrations. However, all is not running smoothly. Land disputes, disreputable card games, strange folk from out of town and hostile Indians all add to a tense atmosphere.
The year is 1918 and it’s Carnival season in Iowa Park, time for The Countess’ annual Masquerade Carnival Ball held at Horseshoe Bend Cellars Vineyard and Winery.
This is a chance for the aristocracy of Iowa Park to come together for a night of celebration and revelry. Only the elite of the community is here tonight, but with everyone hiding their identity and enjoying fine wine, secrets – long hidden and socially destructive – may be revealed! By accident, or intentional, if revealed could destroy the reputation of a guest, a family, or community and forever change their lives.
It’s 1955, and Iowa Park has a problem with teenage street gangs. In the east, there’s a hot rod racing gang called the D-Birds. Their ladies are members of the girly clique called the Pink Chicks. These rebels attend Ryder High and spend their free time at Horseshoe Bend Diner. The Pit Viper motorcycle gang runs the west side of town, and their ladies are the Black Widows. These hooligans attend Holiday High School and frequent the local hangout - the Dairy Queen. If either of these gangs ends up on the other’s turf, a white-knuckle rumble may break out and cause chaos in the streets.
At Ryder High, the cheerleaders have created an organization called Campus Crew to reduce criminal activity in the city. The founders passionately believe that bringing the teens of Iowa Park together will solve the gang problem, so they have scheduled the Friendship Sock Hop. To their surprise, everybody that was invited has sent in an RSVP! This should be a night to remember!
The Campus Crew has promised peace and harmony for this evening of forming new friendships and working out a truce between the east and west of Iowa Park. You have been invited. This is where your story begins.
